Although some might argue that it's a tad pricey, I must say that this works as advertised and extremely well at that.
It took almost two days to go through my music collection of almost 8000 songs and while it couldn't do anything with my protected iTMS songs (only the ones after iTunes 6 broke jHymn), using the suggested decibel setting of 91.5 meshes them flawlessly (so far - i've tested about 600 songs as of now).
iVolume 2 marks what songs it's processed by adding a long string at the front of your comments, while your comments are still there (at the end), they're a little harder to use because of the iVolume string (and I use comments like crazy for smart playlists). I was able to relatively painlessly change a freeware applescript to clean the iVolume comments out, leaving me with just the comments I started with, although I'll need to keep track of new additions to run through iVolume now.
Which brings me to this: what's changed in 2.01? No "What's new" section for the new version. I'm hoping for a change in the way the comment system works. A small "iV2" at the end of the comments field or something. Anyways, the developer seems really helpful, the app works great, and I'd recommend this to anyone. For a process that took almost 2 days unsupervised for an app, I can't even begin to think how many months this would take manually.
iVolume
Ensures that all your songs play at the same volume level.

I hate it when software developers put this crap in their software. CD spin doctor does it as well. I have to go in and delete it every time. I use the comments field for smart playlist and should not have to go in and delete useless text the developer puts there for god knows why. For this reason I will NOT be buying this software as I had planned. I do not feel I should have to spend my time deleting the comments. I hope the developer reads this and takes automatic comment text out!!

I agree it is a pain but I suppose it's there so you can keep tabs on which tracks have been adjusted. Believe me, it's easy to get in a muddle and you don't wanna be tampering with the specific field too much.Saturday, February 04 2006 @ 02:42 AM PST

Hello. You wouldn't consider making that tweaked freeware script available to a fellow heavy comments field user, who is now in serious panic mode about the prospect of having to manually edit 8000+ songs?Wednesday, February 15 2006 @ 04:35 PM PST

I have the same problem with the 'comment' string. Theissman, it would be very nice, if You could share this applescript wich can delete these iVolume entries.Tuesday, October 31 2006 @ 12:14 AM PST
