I've downloaded everything possible to find a simple, elegant note taking app, and just because the last feedback was posted in 2003, I've always thought SnapNotes pointless to download.
I downloaded it an hour ago and it's a lovely bit of work. Nice interface, and rock solid under 10.4.
If all you need is an open notebook on your desktop to catch ideas as they happen, or store passwords/URL's etc, you owe it to yourself to download this. 100% more useful than stickies. It's a wonder Apple haven't nicked it.
And don't believe VersionTracker - SnapNotes has now been made freeware....why are you waiting?
