LEAVE YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM ALONE!!!
Altering the core appearance of your OS almost always effects performance.
Shapeshifter looks kind of cool, at first, but it makes everything SO buggy that a clean install is usually not too far down the road. It may run fine for people that basically mess around on their Mac, but those that rely on their machine for a living should never alter the OS with an app like this, CandyBar, or Mighty Mouse.
It could mean a day spent reinstalling everything and tweaking prefs in order to get everything running in accordance with your normal workflow...never mind any lost data...a day (or more?) lost!

I've used them both, and when they weren't installed/running everything on my comp was fine... as soon as either (especially Shapeshifter) was installed, everything got incredibly buggy.I work on my Mac for a living, and I can't have it running poorly because of a cool looking menu bar.
This is not just me...2 of my coworkers have experienced the same sith SS.
I don't review software that I haven't actually used...I'm not uninformed...glad you haven't had any problems with your Mac...have a GREAT day!

You're still wrong. Also using a computer for a living doesn't make anyone an expert, nor does using photoshop or illustrator. Which if those were my core programs I'd sure as hell be on a PC for my job.Thursday, February 23 2006 @ 06:05 AM PST

Lol. And with that you don't even need Shapeshifter for your OS to be buggy!Tuesday, April 11 2006 @ 01:47 PM PDT
The idea behind shapeshifter is that - Ilgaz
Telling in case you are misinformed. Why APE exists? Why Shapeshifter lives the hassle of loading dynamically on each application?
BECAUSE THEY LEAVE YOUR OS AND FILES ALONE.
One could simply and evilly hack the OS X file resources to provide theme functionality. They don't do it.
Inform yourself. In case you are misinformed.

I've been using SS for over a year with no problems whatsoever. Get your facts straight before posting wild accusations.Wednesday, February 22 2006 @ 07:11 PM PST

see above...glad you haven't had problems, but these aren't wild accusations...as soon as SS was installed on mine, and 2 other coworkers Macs, Photoshop and Illustrator (something we rely on, daily) became sluggish, and there were other varied bugs (I'm sorry...it's been awhile since this was on my comp, so I've forgotten the bugs, it was version 2.2, I believe).Glad you've been running it with no problems

So I take it you didn't even bother to install this application? Good thing you rated it one star. As far as Candybar is concerned, you realize it's nothing more than an icon changing application? A task that is BUILT into the operating system and does not affect your performance in any, way, shape or form. I come to version tracker to find reviews from people who have actually used the software, not ignorant people who decide they want to go be negative against a product they have no tried.Meanwhile, I've used shape shifter plenty. My performance was fine.
