I commend (and thank) Apple for providing these refinements to an older release of Safari (inasmuch as there is still a significant number of Panther users in the market). I'm not a Panther user myself, but as an IT administrator, I do preside over a number of Panther workstations. Of course, there is a limit to how many generations of software a company can continue to maintain, and having multiple forks in the code base can become unwieldy (even with good source code control), but it's good of Apple at least to not pull the plug on one generation behind the current one.
Panther users deserve more than just security updates in the Apple-developed applications they use, and it's good that Apple recognizes and appreciates this.

Apple's Vigilence - Jeff Mincey
Excellent point about Java, though can you not download the latest Java interpreters from the Apple web site -- even though they may not appear via "Software Update" in Panther? I know they are available through the developer portion of Apple's web site; I'm only hoping they are available to end users as well.Friday, January 13 2006 @ 11:46 AM PST

This is the end or quite close to the end of the updates to the older OSXes. Apple is obviously going to be heading in new directions which will involve a new OSX made for the new chipsets. Adapt or die!Friday, January 13 2006 @ 09:22 PM PST
Apple's Vigilence - Superstitious
It's unfortunate that vigilance doesn't apply to Java. It's not too much to ask for Apple to keep Panther current.Reply to This
