I was only using Saft for type-ahead support. the other stuff is really great too. After upgrading to 10.4.4, I was amazed at Safari's speed. New windows would appear almost instantly. I realized this was because Saft wasn't loaded. Saft delays new windows by almost a second or more. That's a big deal when I open new browser windows all the time. That was enough for me to give it up. I will miss it. :)

Wonder if you have tons of ad blocking patterns imported. It's known to slow down Safari. I have about 20 regex patterns for it and Safari performance is good. If you want, you can send me your Safari preference file so I can test it.

Hi Hao Li,

thank you very much for the offer. I tried changing Saft preferences, disabling everything except type-ahead support. I was only using default ad-blockers and shortcuts; I tried removing those.

Safari works great. It's still very very fast. It just seems Saft delays the appearance of new windows by something like almost half a second. :) I understand. It changes the menus and modifies lots of things. When I get something faster than my old 1.25ghz powerbook, I'm sure I'll use it again. It's an amazing plugin.

If ad blocking is not on, the only thing that can slow down Safari, is crash protection, which flushes Safari's preference file to disk in case that it crashes you still have saved windows on disk. Wonder if your Safari pref file is so large that it takes noticeable time to flush it... Maybe you want an option to turn off crash protection?
