The first thing I tested after installing this updated on my 60 GB vPod was the fast forward/reverse scanning of videos (press and hold skip forward or skip back). I'm very happy to report that it is vastly improved! Previously it worked poorly, stuttering and often resulting in a long delay when you let go, especially in reverse. It now works consistently both in forward and reverse. You get a rapid sequence of frames as it scans, not unlike how many DVD players scan forward and reverse and it now works great. Yeah! There is also now a "Radio" option in the Main Menu settings - it doesn't seem to show up in the main menu, though, presumably not until you plug in the remote/radio. Good. I didn't notice any other significant changes. The improvement to video scanning is worth the price of admission. Of course, it still doesn't do gapless playback, and it still doesn't sync your subfolders in iTunes, so only 4 stars for you, iPod software. As far as the "documentation", it would be a lot nicer if they told you specifically what was changed with each release rather than having to experiment to find out by ourselves.

Vastly improved scanning in videos - audiodesign

I have heard that gapless track playing isn't possible because it is an inherent fault of the format and not the player. However I would like to see track crossfading like you get in iTunes as a bandaid...

2006-01-10 updater is a lemon. I had to revert back to 2005 release and reload the Pod. Good going Steve!!!
