The problem with start is due to the OLD saved windows for crash protection. To workaround it, you can delete Safari preference file and restart Safari.Wednesday, January 11 2006 @ 10:32 AM PST

Thanks again for the quick update! However I'm getting the same bug as described below, with Safari opening multiple new windows with the beachball, and having to force quit. Only resolved by downgrading to 8.2.1, which of course no longer works with 10.4.4.Just thought I'd let you know...
