A program like this is worthless and should not be used on any Mac. The startup chime indicates that your computer performed a successful Power On Self-Test or POST. If you don't hear the startup chime it can indicate that there is a problem with your computer. I highly discourage the use of this and similar programs.

Your point about the utility of the statup chime is noted. However, it is completely inappropriate for you to declare Psst! "useless" unless you use your computer the way everybody else does.The last thing in the world I want is to draw attention to my computer use in a meeting, and I would gladly accept a computer operating imperfectly in exchange for the assured silence that Psst! provides.
I use a verbose boot (lists commands at they occur, don't watch the blue screen with the spinning turbine) and look at my logs, and if a problem existed, I'd know it without the "idiot light" level of information that a startup chime.
If you used your computer the way I use my PowerBook, you would find Psst! to be very useful indeed. I recommend you withdraw or retract your comment.

Sometimes people don't want the startup chime for various reason. For example, my laptop once kernel panicked on me in class. I didn't want to disturb the class so I wasn't able to use it anymore that day. Had I been able to mute the startup chime I would have been able to resume use of the laptop.Reply to This
