After using this version for a few weeks with OS 10.4.3, I judge that its organizational features are far superior to iPhoto. It is also faster than iPhoto. Its catalogs can be deleted and recreated however you want them, since they are not combined with the actual files. Only slight downside is that it does not have the editing and .Mac integration abilities of iPhoto. But so what, when you want to access an iPhoto feature then simply copy over the photos into iPhoto when you want or need to use those features. Also, iPhoto has a few bells and whistles like music with slide shows. But once again, so what, if you want to do something only iPhoto can do, then copy over the photos for the project you want.
For me, I was only using iPhoto as an oganizer 98% of the time, and as a photo organizer it is inferior to iView Media. At around $50 this program is quite competitive with iPhoto (which is no longer free). If you need the added features of iView Media Pro, then the price differential is more serious.
