I used to use Fire, and really preferred its interface. I made the switch to Adium for a seemingly dumb reason - support for animated smilies - but now I much prefer the Adium interface.I guess it is all personal preference and what you are used to.

Fire. Like the interface, basically just works. Pretty much use it exclusively for Y!, though.Thursday, January 12 2006 @ 07:23 AM PST

OK, maybe I take it back. Just loaded to 0.87 Adium. Visuals on Adium are like WOW. Have to see if it's stable, though.Thursday, January 12 2006 @ 09:51 AM PST

I have used Fire from versión 0.32 and recently (last month) switched to Adium. The main factor was that file transfer simply works in Adium, and I have never been able to do that in Fire. Also, Adium is A LOT more configurable and has very nice scripts that are very complicated to make work in Fire. I've heard that Fire 2.0 will address some issues, but until they do, Adium will be my IM client.

i used fire until Tiger came out, and fire didn't work on tiger until some updates, so i switched to Adiumand i discovered the "magic" of working file transfert..
the only thing i like in Fire more than Adium was that it required some Mb less of memory.. but i upgraded my RAM and now there is not any reason to go back to Fire...
ciao Fire! (sorry :(
:)

I have been using Fire all this time mainly because of its support for strong, public key encryption (via its gnupg integration).Wednesday, February 15 2006 @ 11:42 PM PST

"Adium provides encryption ... via Off-the-Record Messaging (OTR). If your contact is not using an OTR-compatible messaging system, your contact will be sent a link to the OTR web site when you attempt to connect. For more information on OTR, visit http://www.cypherpunks.ca/otr/."Is this weaker than GPG or PGP?

Adium. Great community, customization, excellent handling of diff clients (IM, Yahoo, MSN) File xfer is sketchy and video/audio via Yahoo! doesn't work for me.Sunday, October 15 2006 @ 07:07 AM PDT

I prefer Fire, it handles everything I want it to and I just like the tabbed layout much better. I only had to use Adium for about a half hour before decided it was better off being trashed. I've been using Fire for the past few revisions and it's works beautifully for chat. (which is mostly what I use such things for)The only trouble I have had with Fire is the inability to transfer files, and I don't know if that's due to my firewall or not. But I don't transfer files often enough to worry about it.
