Hi all VT users,

Just wanted to say that it wasn't greed that prompted us to start charging for the bootable CD download. Download costs are pretty high for such a large download (a bootable CD download is a very big file).. Multiply those costs by tens of thousands and it's a pretty staggering cost. As Drive Genius has gained quite a bit of momentum in sales, so has its download statistics. One thing to note is that the majority of downloads are from folks that haven't ever bought the product (folks wanting to demo the software and, sadly, we see a lot of piracy). We just got to a point where we couldn't continue to offer the bootable CD download for free...

Of course, if you come to MWSF or any of the other shows we go to, you might already know that we gladly hand out free update CDs, heck, you don't even need to show proof of owning it...

Also, we still offer a ship-me-the-CD-for-$5 service too (for those still on dial up).

With that said, there might still be some questions or maybe some suggestions and we'd honestly love to hear them! Please contact me directly if you'd like as we really do care about our customers, each and every one of them--

Cheers

I'd not accuse you of greed for this large download.

But I'm not downloading this file. The "bootable CD" you sent me boots with no problem.

Sadly, the application conflicts ("in its opinion") with DiskWarrior 3.03 as to the state of the directory of my PowerBook (current model).

It repairs, DiskWarrior repairs. DiskWarrior repairs, but this then repairs. This suggests that one of the apps is wrong, especially if each application is run twice before checking with the other. I plan to stick with DiskWarrior and have "retired" my CD for this app somewhere.

Skeptical? Speaking of pirates you need only request and I will be happy to post whatever registration number may have come with the CD. Seriously, I dislike pirates too, but I dislike vendors of questionable products equally.

Anyone wishing to question the reliability of this app versus DiskWarrior is welcome to do so. It's your directory. And no, I don't work for *any* software vendor.

Found a note attached to my electronic order copy: "This can be painful with respect to copy protection." It's been several months. Sorry if I can't be more specific. But vendors who complain of piracy deserve little respect from me for a questionable product I've PAID for online.

The electronic receipt I have indicates "Tiger compatibility" or some such. I vaguely recall this will boot from any bootable drive, inclusive of my bootable FW external drives. Could well be wrong. Am relying solely on memory.

Hmmm.....Sorry as it appears I'm duplicating some comments of my Review after receipt of bootable CD.

It appears my concerns are based in part on use of (x)number of series of (y) of mixed numbers and letters, likely not copy/paste etc. etc. (Latter part of comment is again speculation based on memory.

I do know that typing in that many digits to begin with would make me an unhappy camper. There was something else, however, not in my notes which suggest it was more than mere digit count I didn't like or found especially annoying....

Also can't determine what, if anything useful, such as apparent conflicts with DiskWarrior, have been made in this version.

So why pay *anything* of unknown value? May need to call that toll free number. My thanks at least for posting that.

I have enjoyed your product for over a year now. GREAT! I am not a power user, but it does a very nice job of optimizing.

I am writing to let you know that since I lost my orginal disc, I chose the $5 image download this weekend, BUT YOUR LINK sent in the email and on your site DOES NOT WORK.

I tried IE Exployer, Safari, and Firefox thinking that perhaps it was a browser glitch, but I only get a blank page and no download.

Unfortunately I needed this because I am having start-up problems on my laptop and can't get booted over this holiday weekend (of course, it had to be on the 3-day!). Can you email me a working link? Happy New Year
