I had previously downloaded the 8.0v2 updater and it had a 12/16/2005 creation date. However I see on the Filmaker website that the date of the updater posting is now 12/22/2005. The disk image file shows a creation date of 12/21/2005 and it has a different file size from the 12/16/2005 dmg. Since I've been waiting for the holidays to upgrade to Filemaker 8 I went ahead and re-downloaded all 203 MB of this updater.

I think Filmaker should have added a rev to the version number (8.0v2a?) or at least some explanation on their download page about what changed and the effect on people who may have downloaded the previous file.

I too am confused. I downloaded the update from a few days ago. As you, I figure this one is newer for some reason. But - I attempted to update my already updated FileMaker v2 and was told I did not have v1 available for updating. I am left wondering what the difference might be.

DO NOT use the earlier 8.0v2 updater, it had a lot of problems, that's why it disappeared and there is now a new version. I am going to wait a bit before updating to this one, just in case (it's not the first time they have issued an update that was then hastily withdrawn).
If you did update using the 1st one, throw away your FM8 folder & re-install your 8.0v1 and then update using this v2.
