I have used WMV Player since it first became available and have never had any problems. I am very satisfied with it. In fact, I have recommended WMV Player to people five times now. The only time WMV Player has not been able to play a .wmv file, is when the file has DRM (Digital Rights Management). The DRM in question is a Microsoft proprietary technology. I imagine the only way the developer can get around this problem, is with the cooperation of Microsolft. Good Luck on that one!
If you download a .wmv file which has to be viewed in Windows Media Player, because the file is a DRM file, I simply tell the file to open with Windows Media Player, instead of WMV Player.
To permanently set a wmv DRM file to always open with Windows Media Player, Control-click the file and choose "Get Info", and set "Open With" to Windows Media Player. To change multiple files at one time, select all of the files to be changed, Control-click the files, and choose "Get Summary Info" and set "Open With" to Windows Media Player.
I have never actually tried to stream wmv media which has DRM, but you should be able to go to the WMV Player Preference Pane, under Plug-in, and uncheck "Use Flip4Mac WMV plug-in".
I am running on Mac OSX 10.4.3, Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5, 2GB DDR SDRAM.
