Ok, so the biggest problem I can see is the fact that Traktor doesn't play AAC/M4A. Lets see why this is a problem, oh wait, because iTunes music store sells the tracks on this format. When I am djing and I get a request for a song that I quite frankly have never heard of, I will preview it on ITMS and download it if I can use it. In the case that I can use it... I cannot play it unless I use iTunes. Not even Baytex can play them. For AAC, i have to use MegaSeg and guess what? I do. I switched from old mega seg, to Traktor, and back. I lose a lot of functionality for something that actually functions. If anyone else is in the same boat try MegaSeg until Traktor has full quicktime format support.

Protected AAC - Lou Kash

Protected AAC is played by the QuickTime audio engine. If an application uses QuickTime to play audio, it will play any m4p from iTMS. Traktor DJ obviously doesn't make use of QuickTime.

Try DJ-1800 instead.

I ran into the same problem tyring to play purchased ITune Music, but like you said, Traktor doesnt support it. To remedy this, and hopefully this will help you, I had burn all of my downloaded music to a cd, and then import them back into iTunes. From that point, Traktor could play the copies that were just imported. Pain in the butt, and it doesnt help a live DJ'ing session (or maybe it can) but I figured I would pass this info on.

Well, as others mentioned, it's a system inherent limitation. Instead of taking the detour via CDs (not sure you wanna go to the whole process each time somebody asks for you to play this-and-that tune) just google for a utility to break the AAC protection for you. No loss of quality involved.

I'm not saying you should, but you could (don't shoot the messenger!).

Yep, it's only the protected AACs that Traktor can't play. But, I say, "who cares".

1) unless you have a really painfully slow Mac, it's not going to take you long to burn tracks onto a disc and re-import.

2) no one is forcing you to buy music from ITMS. You can get a greater range of music, at higher bit rates, often for less money, AND UNPROTECTED, elsewhere on the web. Traktor comes with very nifty Beatport integration, or how about DJ download dot com, or if you're just after pop, try mp3sale dot com. I say vote with your feet, you don't have to shop at ITMS.

Now, has anyone tried out these new Traktor features yet?
