$20 are you joking?

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Have Not Tried

Recommend Product: NO

Seems like if one person paid for it the developer would be over paid for putting a GUI on a one line script.

To run a screensaver module on the desktop, type this command into an active Terminal window (don't close the window if you want to terminate it easily):

"/System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine -background &"

original source: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20020824082233907

or freeware (any of these will do this for free)
Backlight (recommended)
Desktop Effects
Background Sceensaver
Screensaver as Desktop
Moving desktop
Screensaver Desktop
bgscreensaver
Strikesoft Desksaver

You are joking trying to charge $20 for an function that at least 8 freeware apps do and is easily executed on the command line right?

$20 are you joking? - coracle

We are sorry that anyone might be so upset by our products or services. We greatly value all our customers and have never received any complaints, except from those that want something for nothing.

For good reason we operate commercially, however strangely agonising for some, it is actually our right. We chose not to develop this item as freeware in order that it might be properly supported and developed.

Whilst we cannot responsibly recommend that anyone try, it is correct that any computer literate individual is perfectly capable of running command lines in the Terminal to perform untold tasks from naming a folder to writing a CD. Really, most software could be called a GUI on a script. Any educated developer understands that really good software is fundamentally about GUI. This product actually contains various command line executions that are pertinent to the overall task and which correctly handle the result of the script given the users requests in the GUI. The considerable amount of code that operates the application and the GUI did not write itself and has nothing to do with command lines.

We reiterate our previous comment, we do not offer this item as freeware, and if anyone would like to obtain a free version, there are apparently at least 8 examples that are distributed as freeware, or you could try DIY. Unlike our critics, we cannot responsibly recommend that anyone try any of the above, we can only responsibly recommend products that we are paid to support.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all Version Trackers from everyone at Coracle!

Write something original and not offered for free or find a new line of work. I sincerely hope no one has paid for this product.

Another helpful fact:

Anyone who wants, and is able to understand how to use the Terminal application can do a whole host of interesting things on their Macs without purchasing a thing. As our thoroughly 'professional' critics are no doubt aware, you can even burn a CD from the Terminal application, and it is free too (complain to Adaptec)!

Despite the few misinformed comments, you cannot easily perform all the functions provided by Hyperon using the Terminal application.

We feel the following might help?

If you would like to try and use the Terminal application instead of purchasing Hyperon, it is located in your Utilities folder and there are examples of various commands freely available on the internet.

If you would like free software, many alternatives have been (quite strangely) advertised here, however we do not provide any at this time.
