any way to keep background checking off?

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Contributed by: snoogly Friday, November 25 2005 @ 07:08 PM PST

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

I installed this pig for about 10 minutes, and then uninstalled it again until I get some things resolved. My big question is how can i turn off the background checking and KEEP it off? It would be insane if there were no option to let users control this.

I would also like to know how to get rid of that stupid castle that is now stuck in my Apple menu!

This does indeed seem to be a very bad product indeed. I stupidly paid for it before investigating it. :-(

Click on the Intego icon in the top menu bar, then run the cursor to VirusBarrier X4... and then Deactivate Background Scan...

Yeeeeessssssss, but this will keep background scan off only until the next reboot. There is no option to deactivate it by default.

Plus if I forget to deactivate the background check after the reboot, I can see that it is slowly but consistently eating up disk space. The only way to recover this lost disk space is by rebooting the machine. Arghhhh!!!

From the Apple menu go to System Preferences... and then Intego NetUpdate. There you can turn off the Intego icon in the menu bar.

Yes, but it made no difference - it keeps coming back.

I got mine off the menu bar by clicking on the icon while holding down the command key and dragged it off the menu bar and letting it go. It hasn't been back since, even if I reboot my PB G4.

Try opening the dmg file and use the uninstall option. If you don't have that file anymore, download it for free from the indego site. Go through the steps to install, but instead of installing, use the uninstall option. That will get rid of the dang castle.
