While Stuffit used to be the de-facto compression standard on Mac OS 7 thru 9, it has meanwhile become almost completely obsolete, except for old .sit files that you occasionally happen to encounter. This is its only remaining raison d'ĂȘtre.
For any other compression format, there are faster and more reliable solutions available for free. ZIP is supported by Mac OS X itself. Stuffit isn't worth a cent any more.

StuffIt Expander is FREE!!!!! You don't have to pay for it. If you don't want to use it, don't use it. But your comments regarding "worth a cent" are worth the letters you've used.Friday, November 25 2005 @ 03:48 PM PST
ZIP is not reliable - Ilgaz
Don't trick people with your blind hate against a format. In fact, expander is a better unzip solution than built in OS X zip since it's multi processor/altivec aware.ZIP has no redundancy features, no standard encyription, built in OS X zip can't even manage to decompress password protected zip files.
Let me remind people download this as a "expander" for multiple formats including RAR. It does its job well as advertised.
