Transmission is progressing nicely, but still has its fair share of bugs (corrupt downloads being the most infuriating). Azureus is a giant resource hog. Bits on Wheels is getting better, but still isn't that stable.
The official client (this one!) is the best all-around, stable BT client available for OS X. Nearly as quick as Transmission. Version 4.1.8 fixes some very important bugs that should have never been released in v4.1.7.

I'm going to have to agree with this review (except for the comment about transmission downloading corrupt files as it has never happened to me). I have used all the other bittorrent programs but the official one is the most reliable. Sure it can be slow when there are multiple downloads (though when there is only one download and the conditions are right, it's pretty fast), but the official BitTorrent client connects to way more peers and seeds than transmission. In the end you just have to try them all out and use the one that's best for you.Thursday, November 17 2005 @ 11:24 PM PST

I retract my opinion of Transmission after trying the newly released v.0.4. Ditch BT official, Transmission is at the head of the pack, and still accelerating.Friday, November 18 2005 @ 10:53 AM PST

You have got to be kidding.. I have achieved speeds of >11Kb/sec per seed on Transmission. The speeds I get with the "official" Bit Torrent client are a tenth of that! NOT to mention how it even succeeds at making my G5 CRAWL and BEG for more speed when it's the only client besides Safari... Rediculously inefficient! I have yet to see Transmission corrupt any of my DVD downloads... you could not be more wrong about the differences between the two. I can never get anything but incomplete downloads with the official client because its so gosh darn slow that by the time it would reach the end of a multi gigabyte download, all the seeds are gone and I'm stuck with a useless file that took too much time and processor power to get.Reply to This
