Is this thing actually useful, or was I just exceptionally ambitious about my laziness in coding it up.

There is a background process that must be running and working for the computer to interface with these printers. When the communication fails, I've found 3 potential solutions: reboot the printer, unplug the USB cable, wait 30 sec, replug it (resets the usb port), and kill and restart the background process. If you are restarting your computer to solve the problem, and the other two don't work, then this script is probably the solution you need. It can be done manually with a little effort, but I put this in my dock and click it to figuratively kick the printer/computer.If your communication is working fine, all this will do is kill and reestablish contact. No harm, but no benefit.

Unfortunately it did not work with my Hp photosmart 1218 & laserjet 1200. Nor my HP scanjet 7400c. But thanks for the effort anyways.Paul

Oh, if this works, it will be a wondrous and fabulous tool to save me from having to interrupt my work and reboot my entire computer just to be able to print something on my HP3300. So in advance, for even TRYING to do this thing: THANK YOU!!! It truly is the most annoying thing in the world to contend with since it always is ill-timed -- of course.Sunday, November 13 2005 @ 05:47 PM PST

Ok now your talking. I am going to try this out. I do not have to reboot but i do have to get up and walk over to my scanner unplug/replug at least once a day. Hopefully this will solve that:) Also, I have a conflict between 2 hp printers that i work around by "force quit" the inkjet to use the laser and click hp communications in the dock to use the inkjet. Maybe this will help that as well by being an all in one click solution. If this does not work for those of you with a similar problem check hps site for the workaround i mentioned it saves you from having to restart every time you switch.Paul

It is not very clear what this thing (script) does. I have an hp scanjet 7400 that i have to unplug the USB cable and plug it back in to re-establish a connection to my Mac every time I want to use it. If this is a type of shortcut workaround for that type of thing than let me know it would be Great. I also have HP communication issues with my printers. If you could please better describe what this software does I would appreciate it and may find it very useful. Thanks
