I made my own little "lotto" using Mathematica to produce numbers at random. I did two sets of 200 pick 3 games, the first being fair and the second having a higher concentration of 9's. Quite surprisingly, the suggestions for the unfair version had no 9's whatsoever, when the bast strategy would be to have all 9's. The fair version was just pointless since it was just about as random as you can get.
The program relies on the "law" that a number can be overdue, increasing its chance if it hasn't shown up in a while. That's like saying if you flip a coin three times and you get all heads, the fourth one is more likely to be tails. If you go to the website you will see a much more convoluted explanation, but that's what it actually boils down to. It's false logic at its best.

The logic is not flawed. It is just looking at the odds over a longer period of time. That is if a number would be expected to show up ten percent of the time and has not shown up recently i.e. not at the 10 percent rate then it might be expected to show up sooner that one that is showing up at 10 percent or better. Yes using odds for a single drawing would show no increased possibily, but over time it will meet that 10 percent.Reply to This
