The only way I could consider this editor is if it supported open standards like Open Document of DocBook.

I strongly agree with you on the merits of open standards like OpenDocument. The owners of Mellel are moving to an open standard XML format in version 2.1 and many users are requesting they then embrace the XML-based OpenDocument standard in the near future.In the meantime Mellel does support RTF, not exactly an official standard but a de facto standard nonetheless, as well as plain text.
Mellel is the best WP on the market. In light of the strength of Mellel's entire feature set, I encourage you to reconsider rather than rejecting it based on the absence of this one, although important, feature.
As a customer you could help those of us encouraging them to adopt OpenDocument and enjoy a better WP in the meantime.
