Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: YES

A really good try. However, the interface is far too unintuitive for such a simple application—you should not have to read the manual to use a dice-roller. Also, although it can drop the lowest for character generation, you cannot save the "drop the lowest" option with the set, limiting its usefulness. I look forward to version 2.0, which may even be worth paying for.

re: the interface - christopherdrum

Thank you for taking the time to post your thoughts on Bones. I'm sorry you find the interface too complicated. This is, of course, version 1.0 of the program and I really wanted to show a new way of displaying and manipulating virtual dice. As such, I included the (admitedly dense) PDF to familiarize people with this new interface concept. I think it's obviously a departure from the standard, "Choose a number of sides and a number of dice to roll." interface that most other dice rollers use; as such, I felt a bit of handholding was necessary. Perhaps I was wrong. Obviously I have a task before me of keeping the robustness of the current version while introducing requested features (die and hand modifiers, ability to add game rule logic to sets, and more) while simplifying the interface. Obviously if some think the program is too complex for what it does, then it will be a hard row to hoe to add features but reduce complexity.

I promise I'll do my best to grow Bones' features while improving its interface. Of course, I want the program to be genuinely useful and if I may humbly suggest: those that really get into their gaming may be willing to invest a little time into learning a feature-rich, non-trivial dice rolling program. I consider Bones to be a true gaming aid, not just a random number generator, and future features will reflect this more fully. I am still collecting input from those who use the program to decide where Bones goes from here.

Thanks again for taking the time to write, and I hope Bones grows to fit your needs more thoroughly.
