How do I update?

Feedback Type:  Usage Tip

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 1-6 months

Recommend Product: NO

Hi:

I purchased Norton Utilities for the Macintosh within the last six months -- it came in a two pack with both the Utilities and the Anti-virus packages bound together.

The Utility version says its' 8.0.2 and the AntiVirus version says it's 9.0.3.

The "Live Update" for the virus always reports that it just downloaded 8.3MB of new Virus Defs, but it always reports that -- over and over again. That doesn't instill me with confidence that I am actually getting the most current virus update.

Version Tracker states that the most current version for AntiVirus is 10.0.0.1, but clicking the "Download" in Version Tracker dumps you to Symantec's web site showing Norton AntiVirus is 10.0, but no clear way to upgrade from 9 to 10.

I'm frustrated -- the product never worked as advertised -- and, I'm not confident that the newer version will work any better. This is not my first purchase of this product type from Norton (with over ten years of purchases), but I think it will be my last.

How do I update? - donikatz

v.10 is a commercial upgrade from v.9. you can't just update, you have to buy it. once you've bought and installed v.10, you can then download 10.0.x updates through LiveUpdate.

personally, in most cases, I would recommend uninstalling Norton altogether and leaving it be.
