Requiring the latest system means many will not be able to use it, and I see little reason why the PCalc application should need to. Let 10.3 users use the application and leave the widget for 10.4 users. What is so hard about that? Some of us are stuck in 10.3 for specific reasons. I love PCalc, but I am not going to move my production environment just to use it.

That wasn't the point, and you know it. The question is, why can't the developer produce an improved application that at least works in 10.3.9? 10.3.9 has partial Tiger compatibility, and I've seen lots of fancy apps and utilities that work in 10.3.9 and above, while not compromising on features. It's pure laziness to abandon Panther completely.Sunday, October 30 2005 @ 12:51 PM PST

there are always older versions of software for older operating systems. if newer software didn't take advantage of OS improvements then why buy it? the software foundry has to make new sales for new reasons to stay in business. leopard is a great operating system. pretty much all the older software that couldn't work under leopard works now. there's no reason to hold back and don't think others will because you do! stop whining and get on the bus!Thursday, September 04 2008 @ 09:58 PM PDT

It's certainly not laziness. I tried quite hard to support 10.3, but unfortunately there were a lot of OS bugs that I couldn't work around, not to mention the maths libraries I'm now using which aren't available before 10.4.I'd love to support older systems because more people could buy the software, but there's always a trade-off.

If you're using a previous version of the OS, simply use a previous version of PCalc. PCalc 2 supports Mac OS back to 8.Reply to This
