Have been using JPEGDeux for years, and never had any problems with it, other than some features I wish it had. But it always worked flawlessly. Until now.
In addition to what others have stated, v1.8 not only won't save new slideshows, it also won't open my pre-existing slideshows. Further, it doesn't even retain the files and folders I manually added in the drag-and-drop window when I quit and restart the app. So, the only way you can use v1.8 is to manually add files and folders every time you fire it up, as it now remembers nothing, saves nothing, and loads no saved slideshows.
I can't see a single improvement over previous versions, either. There's not a single new feature, not a single new Prefs option. I guess they must have done something besides screw it up, but I can't figure out what.
They released v1.8 four months ago, and have known about this problem from user's feedback since its release, but have done nothing to fix it.
I'm glad I didn't toss my v1.6.1 out... I always keep my old installers around until I'm quite sure that its replacement works and is stable.
This isn't exactly the right place for this, but if the developer ever drops by, some features that I wish could be added to future versions include the ability to crop, to losslessly resave individual files that I've cropped, flipped, rotated, etc., to zoom in and out on the currently displayed pic, and to have all the file manipulation options available from the pull-down menu and/or a toolbar in addition to using keyboard commands.
Multiple Undos would be nice, too - I use JPEGDeux for quickly thinning out my herd of files, and I sometimes just reflexively hit the 'd' key on files I really didn't want to get rid of. So, I have to go dumpster-diving in the Trash, *try* to find the file I've wrongly deleted, then *try* to find the folder it's supposed to be in and drag it there. Having an Undo function would save me a LOT of time and bother.
Yeah, I know - gimme gimme gimme. Sorry, but I don't know diddly about programming, or I'd try to help out in the effort to fix and improve this handy app. I really do appreciate those who develop useful freeware at their own time and expense. Except for this release, I consider JPEGDeux one of the best freeware apps I've ever used.

RE: Don't bother with v1.8 - eric.oxenberg
No doubt the inability to retain previous slideshows is the developer's way of fixing the bug that crashed previous versions. In the earlier version, moving any image files after creating a slideshow necessitated the cumbersome deletion of JPEGDeux's plist files. While I'm happy I don't have to throw out plists anymore, it's too bad they didn't fix the unstable app itself.Wednesday, February 21 2007 @ 07:04 PM PST

No doubt the inability to retain previousl slideshows is the developer's way of fixing the bug that crashed previous versions if you moved any images after creating a slideshow, necessitating the cumbersome deletion of JPEGDeux's plist files. While I'm happy I don't have to throw out plists anymore, it's too bad they didn't fix the unstable app itself.Reply to This
