Repairing permissions before and after an install is always good practice, but in my case, I found that new plug-ins were installed with the permissions mis-set.

A slow-down in file transfers which had been annoying me was fixed by the re-install.

On the other hand, AOL's awful habit of crashing when signing off automatically after a download has been preserved.
