Confusing numbering: 1.92 (3-26-05) vs. 1.92b (4-22-05)

Surprisingly, 1.92 is earlier than 1.92b. The 'b' suffix normally indicates a beta release.
In 10.4.2, using 1.92b, I encountered a hex pasting bug that I assume is what was fixed in 1.92. Downgrading from 1.92b to 1.92 fixes that bug, and works fine in Tiger.

So - what really is the latest release?
