How does one drag a file to a widget?

Feedback Type:  Troubleshooting Report

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Maybe I'm missing something, but...

When Dashboard is active, I cannot interact with the Finder. Thus, how can I drag a file onto the frog (on this widget)?

Heh, it took me a while on this too... Click and hold on a file (to drag) in the Finder and then activate dashboard (F12) while you are dragging the file and then you can drop it on the widget! :)

Cheers!

Not an easy task on my iBook, where the function key, and the F12 key are diametrically opposed. As far away as possible from each other!

There are two ways I know of to get widgets to interact with the finder.

1. You'll have a hotkey on your keyboard assigned to open/close Dashboard (on my Powerbook it's F12). left click and drag the file whilst pressing the hotkey and this will open Dashboard whilst still interacting with the file. Then you can drop the file onto any widget thats open and that is designed to interact with dragging and dropping (e.g. the tile game and the Azureus widget)

2. The other way I know is to use an app called "Toggle Widget-On-Top" from this link http://macnify.blogspot.com/2005/11/free-your-widgets-from-dashboard-part.html

It will let you run Dashboard widgets on your desktop. Once this is activated you could run the Azureus widget on the desktop and drag files straight onto it.

Hope this helps

Or, in System Preferences -> Dashboard & Exposé, set a hot corner to activate Dashboard. Then you just drag to that corner, then back to the widget.
