10.0 Fails to expand archives

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

Recommend Product: NO

Downloaded the latest Virex definition (.gz) file. Stuffit 10.0 appeared to expand the archive successfully but the resulting .pkg file was only 64k bytes in size and consequently would not install the virus definitions. Reverted to Expander 9.0.1 which expanded the same .gz file to a .pkg file of 7.2 MB which was installable. Seems like the legendary Smith Micro software flakiness didn't take long to make its presence felt on this product. I suppose it's an advance that they don't charge for this non-funtioning software unlike the many iterations of FaxSTF.

Forgot to mention, I too downloaded the ".gz" file and was able to expand it with Expander 10 if I took the outputted file and dragged and dropped it on a expander again. MacAfee packaged this ".gz" file somewhat incorrectly.

I figured what was wrong with this package. The idiots at MacAfee packaged this as a tar.gz file but left off the ".tar" extension nor did they name it correctly like ".tgz". That's why the outputted file needs to be dragged on dropped on StuffIt Expander 10 again. So in this case, it's not necessarily Expander 10's fault but MacAfee.

Just in case the file is different than the one you downloaded, I downloaded this file from this link here:
