I've also relied on CCC for years, and it's never let me down. Last night I cloned my G5 to external firewire devices, replaced the drives (with a mirrored pair that was set up by booting the firewire clone), and restoring.
Nothing out of place, all differences in size were minor, as expected.
No worries here. Oh, and this was under 10.4.2.

Differences in size... - Andreas..
CCC will not copy certain items which would stop the clone from functioning correctly, mainly temporary items, caches and swap files (CCC Help gives the complete list, which is modifiable). That is what makes a clone always slightly smaller (until you boot on it and start using it) than the source.
