I use Default Folder dozens of times every day, and would have trouble using my computer without it.

In addition to clicking on background windows as described by julia2, I especially like being able to use the same hotkey to go to a folder if I'm in a dialog box or open the folder if I'm in the Finder.

The developer is great - he has always been quite responsive to my comments and requests.
