worth it for one reason...

Feedback Type:  Review

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

Recommend Product: YES

I wasn't going to try the beta, until I saw this listed in their mac specific bug fixes:
<i>233977 - [Mac] Single-click selects entire address bar rather than activates cursor.<i>

That was my no. 1 annoyance with Firefox, and I can confirm that it's now fixed.

Mostly, though, this version seems pretty much the same as the last one. Maybe a bit faster. Stable so far.

Hasn't Firefox always done this (as opposed to Safari's annoying behaivior)?
It certainly does it an all my Macs.

The problem I've always had with Firefox is the up & down arrows do not get you to the start & end of the text in a single-line text field (like the Address) as they do in virtually every other browser and app. Infuriating.

Okay, I just downloaded and installed this Beta and found exactly the opposite of what the original poster stated to be true.

Clicking in the Address bar now DOES NOT select its contents - it just sticks a cursor where you clicked just like frikkin' Safari does.

If I can't figure out how to return to the previous Firefox behaviour of "click in Address Bar selects contents" then this is getting tossed.

Exactly - it does what Safari does. The text I posted was a reported bug that had been fixed. So now the behaviour works like this:

-If you want to put the cursor somewhere, click there once.
-If you want to select a whole word, click on it twice.
-If you want to select the whole address bar, click three times.

Now that Firefox behaves this way, consistent with other apps, I don't swear every time I click in the address bar to correct a typo, and then erase the whole address by typing my correction.

I do agree with you that down & up arrows not working is annoying, but for that I've gotten used to using cmd-right arrow and cmd-left arrow.

I (and everyone else I've asked) prefer the old click-selects-full-address convention that we have had for years in every browser except Safari. I think even Mozaic behaved this way back in '94.

Apple-arrows for line end & beginning is fine if you are a both hands on the keyboard sort of user, but a pain if you normally have one hand on the mouse or drawing tablet.
Incidentally, the Home & End keys on a full keyboard never worked in Firefox either.

Go to about:config, then look for this preference:

browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll

Set it to true or false, whichever you prefer.
