you can use folders to categorize your playlists on itunes, but it DOES NOT transfer to your ipod! what good is it to consolidate playlists when you can't transfer those consolidations to your ipod? i figured i'd get rid of my "Podcast" smart playlist and put the individual feed playlists into one folder to keep them separated. no ipod support. great job.

another interesting quirk - sjonke1

Note that there has not yet been an update to the iPod software so this feature may well show up for the iPod yet. On the other hand, it's worth noting that we have had to go without, on the iPod, the iTunes ability to group compilations for quite some time, and that has made that iTunes feature entirely useless for iPod users. Quite some time, it would seem, until today - the iPod nano appears to have a "Group compilations" option in the settings. Yeah for that, but when will my Mini see this version of the iPod software? My guess is that they'll keep it from us for a while in the hope that we'll buy an iPod nano in the mean time.
