Make sure you are using the MPlayer OSX video out module int the
video & audio preferences. This should solve the problem.

BTW, what's the difference between the 3 differents video output modes ?

quartz = movie in separate window with quartz 2D rendering
macosx = cocoa window rendering using CoreVideo
mplayerosx = integrated video+ui using CoreVideo (recommended)
