Duality is dead--I don’t know why it's still posted on VersionTracker. The author, Colin Cornaby, killed it over a year ago--he wasn't satisfied with it. He then started working with Carpe Stellarem on Duality's first successor, XTender. This is mostly explained at http://www.macthemes.net/articles/insider/000198.php, but now even XTender is dead. More recent info is at Cornaby's blog site: http://gomac.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_gomac_archive.html. Cornaby is working on another new theme editor project which I think he first called .skin, but which it seems he's renamed to "ProToys", which will be Open Source and free (check one of his relatively recent postings at http://macthemesforums.net/viewtopic.php?t=324&sid=e87e64038faa4b5ab39d32d9416160f1). He's been saying since some time in 2004 that he'll release something eventually, but others say they'll believe it if they see it.
As it is now, trying to launch Duality 4.02 will cause Duality to just "unexpectedly quit", citing a library file that's not installed, and cites a pathname where it's supposed to be, but the pathname starts with Users/colincornaby/Documents. As warpedten notes below, the reason is that to get Duality to work, you also need to install "ThemeKit Runtime Framework", also from the makers of Duality. Too bad he didn't bother to mention this in the readme file that accompanies Duality, and too bad he didn't include it in the Duality download, and the web page at http://www.conundrumsoft.com/newduality/ doesn't come right out and say you need to install this separately. To really put the nail in Duality's coffin, the Themekit Runtime Framework used to be at http://www.carpestellarem.com/Downloads/, but they've taken that link down, so you can no longer get the basic stuff needed to get Duality to run.
www.conundrumsoft.com/newduality is a page that says the "new Duality" will be released "next week"…but they don't say WHICH "next week"--the comment is undated. Apparently someone forgot about this page's existence, so it's still up.
Too bad Duality is dead, if their claims about speed, etc. were true. I wanted to install a simpler OS X theme to see if it would speed up OS X, but it now seems that only slower theme utils like ShapeShifter remain, so that regardless of which theme you use with them, they make OS X run slower.
