After installing Palm Desktop 4.2.1 Rev. C, be sure to run Disk Utility and repair permissions immediately. This installer screws up ownerships and permissions all over the /Library directory, /private/etc/authorization. And if you're running Sophos Anti-Virus, you'll get an error message after rebooting (immediately following the Palm Desktop installation) stating Sophos can't run because of a missing kext file. The only way to fix this is to remove/re-install Sophos.

What shoddy testing and quality control by Palm. They had permissions problems with Rev. B that weren't as bad. They actually made things much worse.
System Info:Tested and reproduced bug under Mac OS X 10.4.2.
