Looks good so far, still long way to go, but to be expected with an alpha.
Aside from bugs and technical issues, one point worth mentioning at this early stage is that the GUI doesn't 'feel' very TV like. Maybe it's the colours, Black type on a white background says 'computer' to me. I think white type on a dark background would feel more 'TV ish'. Think DVD Menus, Pay TV menues, Nintendo, Playstation etc etc. they're all usually light on dark.
Some snappiness would go a long way too in the navigation department (again an alpha issue I'm sure), but I would assume the loading of all the movie icons must mean more thinking from the CPU, when a simple list would probably do the job, as well as fit more titles on the screen at once. Long file names also cause a hell of a mess.
That's about all for now, good job so far, I shall be watching the progress of this app with very keen interest.
4 stars for a promising alpha.
