For approximately $10 more you can buy BluePhoneElite: http://www.reelintelligence.com/BluePhoneElite/
and send SMS directly from your phone for your local SMS rates. Local rates are much cheaper than $.10, also you get an application that can read your phone book, answer the phone, pause iTunes, etc.......
I do not see the advantage of this product.

So you have six in one hand, half dozen in the other. You would have to be hard pressed to find a new generation mobile without Bluetooth. Second, by using BPE and your phone, you have a much cheaper solution than what is being offered. For your solution to be viable, it would have to appeal to people that do not have a phone (with or without BT) but want to send SMS. What are the chances of this? Slim to none. Maybe in the US as the US is sort of the 3rd world when it comes to mobile communications, but to the more mature markets in Europe, this does not offer an attractive value proposition. Here you can get 500 or 1000 free SMS depending on the package. This package can not be matched by this application.Thursday, August 25 2005 @ 10:18 AM PDT

As a Macintosh software developer for over 10 years, I consider myself a power user. Yet, my PowerBook does not have BlueTooth. Also, in the mean time, I currently have three mobile phones, which I use to test the SMS Mac products. None of my three mobiles have BlueTooth. Why? Because I, like most people buy the cheapest mobile I can get. Not the most expensive one.Thursday, August 25 2005 @ 11:01 AM PDT

Dude, if you are the developer of this app, great. I have been in the software biz on the Biz Dev and Sales side for about the same amount of time and the first question is always, "what is the value". For my customers and clients, I could not see the value of offering them your application and I do consulting to Vodafone, Telia Sonera, Vodafone Egypt and Kuwait. Most of them are offering phones that are BT enabled. They are offering customers BT packages so that they can use their phones and computers together as a mobile package. Your product would not fit into this biz model. However, there is a market for this product.Thursday, August 25 2005 @ 11:54 AM PDT

$0.10 is cheaper than the local SMS rate in Australia, which is $A.25. And I also value the desktop widget 'form factor' - right there on my screen all the time whenever I need it. (Plus I don't have to go and find my phone if it's not near my computer.)Monday, January 30 2006 @ 01:30 PM PST

Send SMS, unlike BluePhoneElite, allows you to send an SMS even without you having a mobile. BluePhoneElite also requires Bluetooth. Send SMS requires neither, only an Internet connection.Secondly, sending an international SMS with the Send SMS widget is certainly a lot cheaper than using your own mobile.
