Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 1-6 months

Recommend Product: YES

For what it does, merely changing a theme, Shapeshifter is at $20 too expensive. In order to fully utilize it, you will also need to register Unsanity’s Mighty Mouse, which comes at an additional price tag of $10. So, we’re dealing with $30 in the end, and most often you will find yourself return to Apple’s preinstalled theme anyway. Actually, you will come to value how well done Apple’s theme is indeed. There’s few Shapeshifter themes out there that warrant a constant use... as mentioned elsewhere, too much sci-fi and for those who really need to work on their Mac most themes are, after a while, not easy on the eyes. Wait for the next release of MacOS X and you will find the new Apple Mail theme introduced under Tiger (and very similar to the Iridium theme on Shapeshifter) all over the system.

Gimmick at a High Price - macfeller

Only buy Mighty Mouse if you want to change pointers. I don't and I didn't. I have never gone back to Aqua, nor do I bet most if not damn near all SS owners.

No gimmick. What is true is that it is yet another UI tweak that was not carried over to OS X. Apple was always providing Appearance themes in pre-OS X.

Erm..
..In the world of os9, there was only a handful of official themes - and some of them were not actually available to the public.

Apple killed the development of themes, but a few did appear from 3rd parties.

Most of the os9 theming was done with Kaleidoscope.

If I remember correctly, it was possible to change the colour schemes of the OS X Public Beta using Terminal commands..
..But I presume that's a dead feature.

just thought I'd throw that in !!

If you don't like any of the themes available, then why the heck are you wanting to use this program!? I don't get it...

I use ShapeShifter, and have never gone back to Aqua since installing it. ProLCD is a great theme, which is easy on the eyes... look for it.
