The retail Radeon ROM updates won't affect OEM cards. These aren't driver updates. They're firmware updates. Apple rarely ever releases firmware updates for their OEM video cards. Most of the time, they're provided by Apple via a ROM in RAM method. The files are installed in /System/Library/Extensions/AppleNDRV as ATIDriver.bundle and ATIRuntimeDriver.bundle. The firmware on the video card gets loaded into RAM at runtime and then the bundles (for OEM cards) get loaded into RAM overriding whatever they can of the video card's firmware.
