Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 6-12 months

Recommend Product: NO

I love prosoft products, and they've saved my tush a number of times. Furthermore, the company is extremely responsive.
But... I cannot recommend this version 1.1.5 of the product. I spent 8 hours testing it last night (I've purchased it.) I Reformatted a drive and copied over all the data from a backup drive. DiskWarrior said "no changes"; DiskUtility/fsck said"drive appears to be OK" and TechTool Pro (which took 40 minutes examining every extent) said "pass" ... but Drive Genius said "Disk needs repair."

On a drive that had just been formatted and software re-installed. That generally means there's no catalog corruption, and three other respected utilities agreed that everything was OK.

After doing this sort of thing for nearly 30 years now, I've learned that this is a case to opt out of the recommended repair.

Since I didn't do the repair, I can't say more than something looks very wrong to me, given the experiments I ran.

See what I mean? They're a very good company! Very responsive. That's why I consider this just a temporary set-back...

Smart move. I had a drive which worked perfectly. I tried Drive Genius. I ran the Rebuild function and it said that it couldn't repair the drive. And when DG was finished, the drive would not mount and nothing else would save it. I had to erase the drive and copy over from a perfect bootable back-up. Now I'm back in business and will not try DG again. I too use Tech Tool Pro, Disk Utility, and Disk Warrior (all the latest versions) regularly and they keep my machine humming.

Fore warned is fore armed. I purchased DG several months along with four other softwares. Ever since installing Tiger I have been unable to get DATA BACKUP to work so I am not alarmed the DG malfunctions. I won't use it.
