this violates the GPL. I once used Proteus but really has become s**tware next to Adium, which is not only free of charge, free as in freedom, but also free of ethically-questionable software licencing schemes. Aww, so poor Proteus wants to use libgaim, but doesn't want to make Proteus itself free. Screw that; Adium here I come.

This has been discussed before. Proteus doesn't violate GPL. IMservices uses GAIM, which any application can connect to, not just proteus.And by the way, if you don't wanna pay for it, don't!! you'll just get one popup window on opening.
