No Malware?

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Contributed by: hdoering_dotmac Thursday, August 04 2005 @ 08:55 AM PDT

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Have Not Tried

How can I be sure, that this little programm (not really a patch, I think) isn’t malware or something else (trojan horse, virus)?
The manufacturer of MacGiro refuses to know this program and doesn’t recommend it.
Thanks for help.

No Malware? - moritzh

Hi, I wrote the program. The source code is available (as required by the GPL), so you can have a look and then build yourself (it's basically a simple AppleScript). (You'll also see the files if you click on the Develpoer's Site link at the top.) (I submitted a direct download link to versiontracker for the source code, but they removed it (don't know why).)

I suggested the program to the manufacturer of MacGiro when I originally wrote the program, but I think they did not really understand, so they did not consider it. It's amazing, however, that they forgot about this already because, from my feeling, it's not a big company...

Note: On the manufacturer's chip card reader problem page, they claim just using 10.4.2 will solve the problem with chip card readers, but I am using 10.4.2 and I still need this little tool to get the reader to work. I already told them about it.

And for those who don't speak German: They say that everything should work with 10.4.2 (making this program obsolete).

On my setup (Towitoko Chipdrive 130 USB, Powerbook 17" 1 GHz with Mac OS X 10.4.2), however, the problem is still there. But maybe you are lucky and it works out-of-the -box with 10.4.2.
