How can MacOS reviewers give Spotlight such rave reviews? It's AWFUL! Maybe it has powerful features. The problem is that 95% of the time, all I need to do is FIND A FILE WHEN I KNOW AT LEAST PART OF ITS NAME. For this task, Spotlight is cumbersome at best, and at worst, nearly useless. So ever since Spotlight mangled Mac file searches, I've been seeking a tool to restore a simple search function to the Mac. LiveSearch is the closest I've seen yet. I assigned Control-F as the find command, and now, from within any app, I can get a simple search box that gives me a list I can sort by Name, Kind, or Date. But most importantly, when I choose a file or folder from that list, I get a good old-fashioned filepath which I can access from any point on that path. LiveSearch is not real fast (even on my 2.7Ghz G5), it crashed a couple times when I first tried to launch it, and it persists in opening an extra window for no reason, but it's a huge relief to have a simple filesearch function back. I haven't yet paid the shareware fee, but I probably will. Now I'm about to install Tiger's 10.4.2 update, and I hope it doesn't break LiveSearch.
