Be careful about disabling the Dashboard. I set this option on my G3 iBook running 10.4.1, and now the computer crashes on startup with the multilanguage "please force restart your computer" message.

Turns out that the crash was not due to disabling Dashboard. It was a latent bug in Cisco VPN.
