Some comments here are quite ridiculous. This is an update to the iTunes Music Store, and anything else that implicates. Obviously you wont find gapless playback or anything else like that hidden away in this update. That's why they called it iTunes 4.9. Wait until they release 5.0, then hammer our your diatribes against the player.

And THANK YOU Apple for not putting downloaded PodCasts into the music library! That was the one reason I never downloaded many PodCasts, when they popped up randomly while trying to listen to your music collection. Podcasts are radio shows, they need to be separated completely from your music library. Thank God Apple got this right. The other points are nit-picks. There will obviously be little bugs. So what. You couldn't find the "podcast directory" button? Come off it.

It's bloody brilliant to suddenly have a world of professionally-presented PodCasts available for free within iTunes, and for iTunes & the iPod to properly recognise them. And there is an option in iTunes to submit your own podcast to the iTunes directory, which is exciting as hell. Ignore the PodCast geeks below ;)

Podcast support a massive breath of fresh air - sjonke1

I have to admit that I'm turning around on the in-the-library-or-not issue. I do see your point and perhaps it is better to keep them separate. However, I still think it should be possible to create a smart playlist that contains podcasts, in this case without having to add them to the Library. Perhaps this could be achieved by adding a checkbox to the smart playlist editor to include podcasts when matching, so it could be selected individually for individual smart playlists. There is definitely weirdness/confusion currently created when you do copy a podcast to your library and there are shortcomings such as the lack of size information before a podcast is downloaded, and similarly the lack of length of not-yet-downloaded podcasts.
