LOL, is it April Fools Day? No wait, it's June. So what is this REALbasic 2005 release doing still posted?

I'll be the first one to say that I would have agreed fanatically with the previous posters that REALbasic <was>, and I stress *was* pretty darn cool. Up until now. This latest release is a kick in the face to Mac developers, and literally makes me want to cry.

My credit card was in hand as I went to download the new demo and upgrade, but as soon as I started it, which took forever to load mind you; I realized that the rumors from beta testers weren't so off target. This thing is *really* ugly and *really* slow. Did I mention ugly? So utterly ugly and slow in fact that it is basically unusable.

For a while now, I have been happy to be able to release a Mac *and* Windows version of my programs simultaneously. Of course there were the little quirks, and I eventually ended up just doing most of my debugging for the Windows versions on an old PC I have, but, this was ok. I was testing for the Windows platform, and was forced to go on it every now and then for a few hours.

With REALbasic 2005, I'm *stuck* using the Windows version 24/7. Yes, the Macintosh version really is a hidden Windows *gem* <wink>. Which in the end computes to.....nothing. Utter trash and a total waste of time and money. I sorely regret the investment and time I put into making previous REALbasic programs, as I'm now stuck out in the cold and hung up to dry like an old rag. REALbasic for Mac is a bad April Fool's joke that went many steps too far. Glad I didn't shell out the upgrade money in advance; well not so glad I guess -- I was hoping it would be an advancement like previous releases were. Nope.

Terrible New Release! - outZider

Well, good, you'll hate XCode and every other IDE out there. This IDE is a huge step forward for REALbasic and proper development ideas.

Terrible New Release! - Geoff Perlman

REALbasic 2005 has the most Mac OS X-native interface it has ever had. It's a big change that's for certain. However, the single-window interface provides a nice intuitive interface especially for allowing the most requested feature: the ability to open multiple projects at the same time. The tabbed browsing also prevents users from wasting a lot of time rearranging and resizing windows. There are plenty of Mac OS X applications that use a single window interface (iPhoto, iTunes, iCal, etc.).

iphoto, ical, itunes == consumer level apps. NOT professional programming IDEs. and btw: xcode does offer the option for users to choose EITHER single window mode OR multi window mode. multiple projects are still highly manageable with multi window layouts so thats not an excuse for having a customizable IDE
