After visiting the developer's site, this really isn't worth $70 by a long shot. First off, it doesn't provide you with ANY bird songs. You have to own the Stokes Field Guide to Bird Songs: Eastern Region in order to use this software. Apparently all this software does is organize the songs into categories making it easier to find the bird you want.
This would be very useful if you loved birds, had and iPod, owned the CDs. But $70 is way too much for me. Maybe $10-15 would be more reasonable.

It just organizes the songs - webtoad
Well, 'just' organizes is a major understatement. The organizational structure is based on over two years' experience actually using an iPod to identify bird songs in the field. This is software written by serious birders who wanted the best possible way of quickly identifying bird songs in the field.
For example: If you just import the CDs into iTunes, the song names are miserably organized since they come from the Internet CDDB, which is notoriously inaccurate. BirdPod Maker corrects that as a starting point.
What else? Here's another example: Tracks with two birds on one track have been split--meaning that you can actually find the second bird on those tracks!
There's plenty more. Yes, you can do it yourself. But not as well, and certainly not with the same attention to what works best when birding.
