It seems an older version works with Tiger. Apple has the following information on .Mac

Alert: Using Virex in Mac OS X Tiger
Virex 7.5.1 is not currently compatible with Mac OS X v10.4. Virex 7.5.1 is compatible with Mac OS X versions 10.1.5 through 10.3.9. Active .Mac subscribers who have upgraded to Mac OS X v10.4 can download and install Virex 7.2.1.

Virex for Tiger - rmorton

7.2.1 does not do on access scanning. You have to physically run the application. It is about as effective as creating an AppleScript that you can double click on and have it display a dialog saying no viruses were found.
