i actually somehow got this thing to work with my umax astra 1200s scsi scanner and a ratoc scsi -> firewire convertor. took a few hours, but it works including the transparency adapter. you need the "TWAIN SANE Interface", "SANE backends" & "libusb" files. i'm in panther. it works as an import plugin from photoshop which you can't even do with vuescan. pretty basic, but does the job. no descreen option. did i mention that it's free?

i'm using the default settings. the important thing is to open the utility and load the firmware then restart the mac. then open the utility and disable it. then restart the mac. you should see the ratoc in the "about this mac" system info under firewire. AFTER you the system recognizes the ratoc, turn on the scanner. open photoshop and you should have an option for sane under import.Tuesday, April 18 2006 @ 11:48 AM PDT
